Citystep To Perform at A.R.T. Tonight

Dance Troupe Will Be First Student Group in Monday Series

Citystep, a dance extravaganza featuring the collaborative efforts of undergraduate dancers, choreographers, and composers, will perform on the Loeb Drama Center's mainstage.

The Citystep troupe, directed by Sabrina T. Peck '84 and produced by Catherine T. Davidson '85, is the first undergraduate ensemble to participate in the American Repetory Theater's (ART) Monday night series.

The production deals with issues concerning the urban experience--for example, the effect of the city on personal relationships. According to Peck, the show stresses "thematic unity while still maintaining the integrity of dance as a principle means of expression."

Citystep already ran on April 30 and May I at Sanders theater, A.R.T. House Manager David Water, said that the decision to do an additional show and include Citystep in the Monday series was based on the high quality of this "showcase of Harvard talent."

Sidestep

Citystep dancers are circumventing the regular academic rules which prohibit student performances during exam period.

Peck said yesterday that in a petition to Dean of Students Archie C. Epps III she stressed the relevance of Citystep's urban themes to the Harvard community and to the community at large.

Peck noted specifically the troupe's performances in Cambridge Public schools and its donation of 300 free tickets to local students. The Ad Board required that it distribute more free tickets to local students for tonight's performance.

According to one Ad Board member, the performance would not have been allowed if the show had required extensive rehearsal. Waters explained that the Ad Board honored Peck's request because the production was "quite polished."

Tickets To Go

Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door at the Loeb Drama Center for a cost of three dollars for students and five dollars for general admission.
